The Pridemane Stables

Nessvyn pushed open the heavy double doors, pack on her lower back and her determination rising. She was going to seek out this blood relative of hers, the one in Beijio... she was but a simple seamstress with some mediocre hunting backing up her combat efficiency, she would get in the way of their goal... but she would regroup with them once she met her. The one Edward suggested was either a sister... or mother. I have to find out... I need to speak with them before I can do anything else... The curvaceous imp thought, as she looked around. All the mounts that were available were... ironically out of her price range. She didn't want to delve too deeply into her foster parent's coin... but to double that, the steeds towered over her in comparison. "Oh... boy..." She chuckled to herself, as she looked around the stable. "There's got to be something my size..." Ness groaned. "-appropriately for both my stature and expenses..." she added, frowning at the fact she labelled herself as 'short'. The Pridemane's were the Scardians who ran this stable, mostly storing their own horses which were not for regular sale... but they also delved into some unique, and exotic mounts too. Maybe I could ride an elk.... that be cute! She thought, and when she inspected the price... turned away quickly. "Ughh..." she moaned, and continued to shuffle along till she spotted something... odd.

It was roughly the same height as herself, sitting behind the same wooden gate like structures inside the stables. It was spotted, and warty... with large, lazy eyes that blinked independently.

She blinked, her lidded gaze fell upon the paper nailed to the fence. "Beelzebufo.... 1000, 900, 540 Gilex" she commented, blinking at the odd price changes, before glancing back to the 4'4 tall creature:



"A giant... toad?" She blinked.

She blinked, her lidded gaze fell upon the paper nailed to the fence. "Beelzebufo.... 1000, 900, 540 Gilex" she commented, blinking at the odd price changes, before glancing back to the 4'4 tall creature:



"A giant... toad?" She blinked.

The giant amphibian's eyes blinked quickly and readjusted itself to the small woman staring at it. It stared for a few moments, before it's throat puffed slightly with a "RIIIIIBIT!"

"Hello? Is someone there?" a voice came from the stockroom at the rear upstairs portion of the stables. Business was relatively slow for the stables around this time of the year. because for a forest village, mounts were not necessary for hunting trips in the early spring. game was plentiful, as was the spring harvest months, soon however, that will change as game moves deeper into the forests and the harvest would require steeds that were not motorized to help till, plow and harvest crops.

She believed he was one of the Pridesmane brothers who ran the stables... was hard to tell since they were triplets and you could only tell the difference between one of them due to his beard. If she recalled, their father was the original owner, but after his back injury had left it in the care of his three younger sons, while his five elder sons worked across Galiavan as rather famous mercenaries. "Hey! Uh..." she paused, unsure which brother it was, they sounded all alike! "Its me, Nessy, Nessvyn Grayswift? I was curious about buying one of your mounts!" She says as she felt something warm and sticky against her hand, and turning back, noticed the frog was licking her! "Ah!!" She yelped, yanking her hand back and waved her hand furiously, slinging the saliva about!

The youngest of the triplets Nathan, appeared at the top of the step ladder leading to the roofspace of the stables. "Nessy? By Scar'd, it has been a long time since you stopped by our stables!" he said with a smile, as he grabbed the ladder railings and slid down to the second flood, and then descended the stairs towards her. Nathan had apparently been busy taking inventory of their stock in the roofspace, for he was covered in dust, in addition to the usual stable dirt one usually expects. "Ah, I see you met Warts, He seems to have taken a liking to ya!" he said with a smile. "So, what can i do ya for? You said you were looking for a new steed?"

"Warts... heh... kinda cute..." She says, still air drying her hand when she turned to him. "Nathan Pridesmane! It has been a whi--" she closed her eyes, her smile still plastered on her face... but sweat rolled down the side of her head. He's... so... tall... She hadn't been up close to one of the brothers, always waving to them at a distance when she was about town... but she didn't remember them towering over the short stacked Imp!! "-wow you're big... six three? When that happen? Hah hah..." She chuckled. What the hell did their father feed them?! The same stuff they give their horses?! She thought to herself, before her mind crept to the dark lewd side of things for a brief moment, before she forced her eyes open. "-Y-yeah, to answer your question. I'm leaving town for a while, to see a relative of mine." She explained.

Nathan simply scratched the back of his head in an awkward smile when she mentioned his height. "Oh? Your leaving the village? Well, we have plenty of stock horses available for a while, before harvest starts, and the hunters need their mounts for longer distance journeys into the forest. How long will you be gone for? And how far do you need to travel? Nathan asked the particulars as he wrote them down on a notepad.

"Yes for a while. May be a few weeks, maybe a month or two so my budget is tight... I checked the prices of many of the horses you guys own already, so I can't afford that much... I'm heading into the Beijio Mountains." She replied, before turning to Warts. "-on that note, why so many price changes on this guy?" She asked, looking back to him.

Nathan looked over to Warts who gave him a lobsided stare for a moment. Poor lil fella, he's a good lil frogger, but nobody wants him. All he needs is a lil attention, and a bagfull of crickets or mealworms a day and he's happy as can be. Give him a lil bath or a lagoon to play in and he's even happier. But, nobody seems too fond of 'im for some reason."

Upon hearing that, Nessy frowned. "Aww..." she said, and couldn't help relate a little. Granted, there were many who treated Nessy here like a member of the village, a lot. But there were people like the headman, Greywatch who still feared her, or resented her. "That's not fair..." She thought, and for that reason couldn't mention how semi-terrifying the creature looked as she pulled herself up onto the gate and leaned slightly over at him. He was different, to be sure.... but something about the eyes still slightly creeped her out. "Can he jump...?" She suddenly asked. "I recall some Gunslingers use giant frogs and toads for traversal through the Amaine, but I hear their jumping ability is stunted due to the weight and size of a human... but considering my-" she paused on that, and coughed. "...you think he'd be able to jump with me on his back?" She asked, glancing over her shoulder at him, blinking her large eyes.

Nathan smiled. "Oh yes, he's quite strong you see. Take him to the ponds here in Killwood and you'll see just how agile he is when he frolics in there. He can swim, jump, and even leap into the treelines of the great ironwood trees above. He's very good at what he does. My guess is that frogs and toads unsettle most Scardians though. Strange to me...

She chuckled, looking at the beast. "So wait, he eats only crickets and meal worms? Those are pretty small, how do you feed him?" She asked, blinking confusedly.

"Like this" Nathan said as he picked up a 10 KG pigskin bag full of mealworms. "A'ight Warts! Grub!" he said, and the toad's eyes immediately affixed to the bag, which Nathan gently tossed towards the frog, who's tongue snapped out and latched onto the bag, before drawing it in with a crunch of it's jaws. The creature chewed on the bag and it's contents for a satisfied moment, before it swallowed it down.

"See, give him a bag or two a day, and he's happy as can be. Make sure you use an organic bag tho, otherwise you have to feed him by hand. No plastic bags for him, or he get real sick."

Nessvyn looked a little grossed out by the exchange, but if its what Warts ate, then it was how it was to be then! "...Right." She blinked, before turning to Nathan again. "Well, I might be sounding desperate, but... I'll take him." She says, handing off the money listed on the sign. "Feeding him might become a little tough, but I'll figure something out. He eats raw meat too, I assume?" She asked, thinking she'd may share her meals on the road with him once out of his usual stock.

"His favorites are bugs and insects, but he can be fed raw meat. I can give ya a few bags of food that'll last ya a few days, but you'll need to frequent supply stops on the route to wherever your heading. Especially if you're going desert routes. Food and water are especially necessary in dry climates like that." he said as he handed her the ownership papers for Warts and took the money. "He's also quite handy in a fight. Give him care and he'll fight for ya." Nathan added with a smile.

Maybe I am a little desperate, but the town still xenophobic and doesn't have a proper road or bus, tram... and I can't afford a horse. I'll have to make due and get adjusted to Warts as I make the journey South... She thought, as Nathan went to grab her a few other things for Warts. "I appreciate it, and good to know. She took a moment to properly mount up on Warts, and after getting herself adjusted turned to Nathan and nodded. "That sounds about right, and good thinking! I wouldn't have honestly considered the bait shop!" She chuckled before frowning. "Nathan... if my folks stop by, or my adopted brothers... mind telling them I'm in Beijio and that I'm fine? nathan nodded twice in the Afirmative. "You got it Nessy. You take care of yourself, ya'hear?" said the gruff man with a smile under his beard.

Nessy nodded back and with that business squared away lead her mount out of the stables before remounting the beast. "Well, Warts... aptly named huh?" She asked the creature, who seemed to ribbit complacently. "Well...at least your happy." she sighed, before looking up to the forest ahead. "Okay... well, lets head south big guy..." She says, pressing her heels gently into the creature's sides, getting him to move forwards. "W-woah!" She shifted with the creatures hopping gait, her breasts bouncing wildly with it as it hopped along the trail! Nessy had to wonder if she would get sea sick if the hopping got bad enough... but as she left Kilwood further behind her, the imp began to ease up, and get used to the mount's movements.
