Market Square in the Upper Quarter Empty Market Square in the Upper Quarter

Post  Rayne Iciclis Mon Jul 01, 2019 3:14 pm

There was a large explosion that rocked much of the country out of their daily routine, and the same could be said of Rayne Iciclis, a water elemental (sometimes referred to as an Aquan) who inhabited the upper quarter of the city. She was in the marketplace in the upper quarter. She brought a droopy detached sleeve to her mouth as her glowing blue eyes glanced out to the forests beyond the city- for the upper quarter could see all. "My goodness, what happened over there?" She says to the stall owner who looked in shock, just like herself, out to the dark cloud that formed in the woodlands north of them. No one seemed to understand what had happened, but then there was a cry of surprise! And there were people screaming that the 'mist' was gone! She blinked, looking around, gasping when she saw the white clouds which stretched beyond their country's boarders become thin, and a... field of blue waves, of the impassible ocean was becoming clearer!

There were many shouts and cries, and it was chaos and panic in the market. Rayne blinked, and looked around. "I'm sure the Lord Regent will be able to make sense of all this!" She says under her breath, grabbing her things and heading away from the chaos.

Market Square in the Upper Quarter Empty Re: Market Square in the Upper Quarter

The Upper Quarter Market on the second spire was located only a short bridge walk away from the main spire of Gendoshima's capital and the ceremonial site of the capital but more importantly and specifically the interrupted ceremony for the new Lord Reagent.  Doll Fel Ro Sheang should have been enjoying the coronation of his office as the mist began to vanish, but like many other things that had just transpired upon Gendoshima not all was as it should be.

Market Square in the Upper Quarter Bilses10

Bilse Svine kept his eyes on his goods until the young lady had approached, here was a good chance to hawk his services, and maybe a few of his finer goods and not so finer goods if he was lucky, and not just "lucky". She was one of the upper markets regulars, always coming through flowing in and out of the market crowds with a gentle beautiful ease. She had a fluid sort of motion to the way she walked which always left Bilse Svine drooling off one of his rather embarrassingly small tusk. But today he had prepared for her, after carefully studying her every movement and stop throughout her regular visits to the market, he considered himself an expert upon the girl and was almost positive he could hawk his services and anything else he could imagine to the girl with just few words. He was about to open his mouth to speak when a dark mass passed just beyond the capital city heading from one side of Gendoshima to the other. The dark mass itself wasn't so unusual, as the mist tended to play such tricks on the eyes.

"Oh sty she's going right by me again."

Svine muttered to himself as he missed his chance being to busy watching the strange shadows in the mist pass the city. About to return his full attention to his chosen flower an explosion nearly knocked him clean over the counter of his little street shop. Stumbling over his wears he stood as an ominous crack followed the explosion. He missed every word of what his flower had said, more in the shock of not just the events taking place around them, but to the sweet sound of her voice speaking to him. He hummed with joy as he brushed himself of dust. The mist was clearing and so was his hesitation and reservations about taking a risk on his flower.

All around them panic and chaos were starting to take over the normally dull and lackluster nature of the upper market. His flower had started off away from his booth, and he was two steps behind her as he shouted over the growing noise of the riotous market place.

"Miss, Miss, it might be safer if I escort you through this madness."

Rayne paused, hearing the shout from behind. The azure woman fluidly half turned to face the boar, his anxiousness clearly seen through his shiny, beady little eyes.

"Huh?" She asked, blinking before turning to face him fully, causing her liquid form to torrent in heavier areas upon her rather appealing body. She blinked again, her blue eyes glancing him over while she gripped her previous purchases anxiously; all the while the market chaos continued. "Say again, Sir Merchant?" She asked.

The woman pulled her hat down as she made her way though the market. Obscuring her face as much as possible as she went to conduct her business among the produce merchants, having a mighty need for some Kiimelon and bananas which she purchased for with the platinum coins she had on hand. She had the bearing of a mercenary, with her katana holstered on her left hip, her right arm sleeve flapping; the black leather jacket she wore bearing the mark of a skull on the limp, empty sleeve. The figure was definitely a woman, there were two obvious reasons for that jiggling behind the open kimono she wore as she pulls the necessary coin from a hidden pocket under her breasts. The white and red trim kimono flapping across her thick thighs as the wind picked up, and the panic soon unfolded. She turned her head to the commotion, a single red eye gleaming from the shadow of her wide brim straw hat, as she saw a dark cloud rising from the forest north of the mountain peak city.

She silently observed stall workers leave their posts, people running around in the panic as the blasted mist began to recede. An unattended sake stall caught her eye, and in the chaos, she plucked a couple bottles off the cart and hid them away in the folds of her kimono, before pulling down the brim of her straw hat with her left hand. People are sure in a fuss for a bloody cloud... She thought, as her eyes caught the glimpses of some of the furry beast men and women. "Tss..." She spat. Well, mostly 'people' anyway... She continued her thought. As she was walking casually through the chaos, she saw a tanuki statue, and feeling her anger boil under her skin, just as casually kicked it over and letting it smash; masked by the chaos of the panicking citizens. She was debating about heading to the city gates, to check out the cause of all this hubbub herself.

"Begging your pardon ma'am, but things are going to the sty, rather quickly here, if you'll excuse the expression and my language of course. What with the honest folk excepting yourself and a few others all attending the Lord Reagents coronation ceremony, the market's full of unsavory types from the Wraith Reagent's court. I don't see much surviving the day with this lot unsupervised, many a things unspeakable be done. I'd be very much remiss to let you get caught up in such a situation, nor would I fancy ending up a slab of bacon myself."

Bilse deftly hefted a flat slab of wood that he used as his butchers block from his vendor's stall and slide the most valuable items from his display into a sling styled sack which he flopped over his shoulder hurriedly. He was not about to be caught up in the lawlessness that was clearly going to take place. At least not when he couldn't fully enjoy it himself that was, or when someone as beautiful as his precious flower was at risk. After all he did style himself as a gentlemen first and foremost.

"If you aren't opposed to it ma'am I'd like to escort you safely out of this mess."

Rayne glanced him over, observing him as he offered to escort her. She could sense something odd about the merchant, but couldn’t quite her finger on it. Regardless, with a smile, she gently cocked her head to the side and nodded. “Why that would be quite valiant of you Sir Merchant, such chivalry is in low supply these days!” She chimed, before turning around, beginning to walk towards the main bridge.

"A pleasure to supply for societies needs and sad lack of chivalry."

Without loosing a step Bilse Svine stepped lively to come up beside her smelling of roses and citrus as was his wont and habit, their feet were going straight for the main bridge by the shortest and quickest route, also the only route to the bridge.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile Reizei path toward the main gates would also lead her to the connecting bridge as the upper market had but two ways down to ground level. The first and normal method, crossing the bridge to the main area and descending the capital cities main spire one street at a time to the ground, or alternately the second route free falling to ones death off the spire. As for the higher reaches of the Upper Market, the top of the spire upon which it is located is home to the religious order of The Dark.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On the main spire side of the connecting bridge a pair of gyrocars are parked blocking the end of the bridge from the riotous citizens of Gendoshima, not those trying to leave the Upper Market but those in the main spire itself. The Governmental Guard, the GG's as they were known were clearing out the bridge to cross it with a robed figure in the center of their numbers. The only safe path in the ensuing mayhem that the mist clearing had caused was to cross the connecting bridge into the Upper Market. A dozen members of the GG's ringed their VIP and made every effort to keep the bridge clear as they crossed it sending the citizens trying to leave the Upper Market right back the way they came.

The Ronin ambled her way along the length of the market bridge, finding it humorous that everywhere she went, disguise or not, people seemed to stray well away from her. Possibly due to the weapon on her hip, or the aura she radiated. Or... that people actually had an idea who she really was, and for their own safety, gave her a wide breadth and their mouths shut in her presence. The woman kept her head down, her hand on the pommel of her blade, before she stopped on the bridge. She brought the single, gleaming eye up, noticing that the people who were evacuating the market were steadily being turned away; all making way for...

"Damn Governmental Guard pricks..." She says under her breath, her voice raspy and vexed, almost irate at the sight of the GG's. That meant one thing... she was going to turn around and wait for it to pass in the shadows like she would for a hangover, for these bastards were just as nauseating and twice the headaches. She had a bad feeling that the VIP they were escorting was one she did not want to cross paths with. She doubled back, and took to hiding between the wooden struts that lined the sides of the bridge, as if to appear she was looking out, to the countryside beyond... and below. She half debated about that second option of getting to ground level...

As Rayne and Bilse approached the bridge, the flow of fleeing civilians trickled and then backed up, before it was clear that they were being forced back to the market. She paused amidst this blockage, and looked around worriedly. "What... what is meaning of this?" She bats her pretty cerulean eyes, her head turning to face the procession of Governmental Guards quickly approaching them! All made sense now, as they were ushering the civilians back, to force them aside and make way for their dignified escort. She turned to Blise, then back to the GG and their guest of honor.

Market Square in the Upper Quarter Empty Re: Market Square in the Upper Quarter

Post  Crisis Rocan Thu Jul 04, 2019 5:31 pm

In the near distance something the citizens of Gendoshima had not seen in over ten thousand years, slowly rolled in.  Well most citizens of Gendoshima, the native born ones to be more precise.  Storm clouds though some had been given the knowledge from their forefathers, or a very small few had witnessed first hand.  Although those few were most likely still in the temporary custody of the Faith Breakers on the fringes of the island.

The more immediate impact of the storm would be that the higher altitude of the capital city could potential become lightning in a bottle.  The major buildings upon the tops of each spire had been built to draw in the storms dangerous electrical currents to prevent any unnecessary casualties and keep the lightning from striking anywhere else.  But without the mist to act as a catalyst the storm clouds would engulf the upper levels and lightning could chain throughout the city unrestrained causing far more than just lightning strikes.  The city tops would become like the outside of a Faraday cage.  Instead of the city being protected, as normal lightning would soon chain throughout the city cause far more destruction than normal, and the buildings that were normally the lightning rod, the Faraday Cage's core would instead become the Faraday Cage which lightning would touch but not harm.

Two such buildings were present in the vicinity of the Upper Market.  First and Foremost was the Ceremonial Hall atop the man spire on the opposite side of the bridge, the second was the Temple of the Dark, located above the Upper Market.  Where the priest of The Dark practiced their religion in relative peace and minor secrecy.  With the bridge back temporarily blocked by the GG's making their way across waiting was the only option available, of course no one could predict the true danger of the storm clouds slowly closing in it was not something that had happened in living memory of the inhabitants of Gendoshima.  Only the Gods and those who outlived them would have witnessed such a sight before.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The GG's turned to view the bridge behind them and found that their gyrocars on the far side had been over run by a riotous mob.  No way back without fighting, and fighting was a last resort for the GG's.  Amidst their numbers was a figure, cloaked and hooded, a VIP being the primary objective of this escort detail.   Details were impossible to tell from the cloak and hood the figure wore but somethings weren't impossible to tell.

"That's a bad idea Captain."

"No choice, can't go back, can't hold this bridge for long, holing up in the market is the only option for safety.  We move out ad we move out before those people cross the bridge."

Begging your pardon gentlemen but this isn't the way we are supposed to be going.  We can't get to the Wraith Reagent's court this way, and that leaves only one choice, we go back across and through.  You had your orders.

"No, they will just as likely kill us as anything else, I won't risk y men for you or anyone."

They arguing carried clear across the streets, all the while the mob slowly worked to remove the gyrocars from the other side of the bridge to make it easier fro whatever it was they were up to.

The Ronin decided to keep her cool, and instead pulled away from the bridge, pulling down on her hat while the GG's V.I.P. continued their way across. She had quick access to her sword however, if it came to blows...

The crack of thunder sounded in the distant darkening skyline, two newly singular occurrences to Gendoshima's populace, neither having been witnessed in living memory, having only moments before been cured of the ever present mist which had shrouded and magically concealed it from the rest of the world. Gendoshima had broken loose of more than just the mist, a fracture so deeply ingrained within the society that generations had passed in silence. With the natural chaos of the receded mist, the three factions of Gendoshima were suddenly thrust into the light of day while the plans of their leaders were caught off guard in many ways.

Plans which in fact included the cloaked and hooded VIP under heavy escort, plans that involved all of Gendoshima it would seem.

We must go back, if we are not able to reach the Wraith Regent I'm afraid you would rather dying trying to get me to his court than cowering in the markets like a street pig!

The words of the hooded VIP blew out across the distant between the bridge and those trying to steer clear of they Governmental Guards progress. Ears in fact which took great offense at what had been said. Whipping around from the opposite direction with an amazing grace for one of his girth and stoutness, Bilse Svine Quickly tucked an odd looking bottle of water into his should sling sack, while drying off his butchers block he had carried with him from his market stall. Strangely enough the Water Elemental, that cute female was no where to be found. With half a grin he stalked straight up to the VIP.

"That's straight sty, no self respecting pig would cower when there's work to be done. Let alone such a magnificent boar such as myself. If these gentlemen won't escort you to your destination, than be off with you sty bathing pansies. I Bilse Svine will prove the worth of a boar and defend the good name of my pig cousins you have ungraciously insulted. Besides I hear the Wraith Regent would cut a man's arm off just for looking at him sideways. I'd hate to see what he would do to someone who stood by and let someone he is expecting be harmed or worse detained for any reason. Matter a fact I think I recall a big old sty he had done up all pretty just for someone being a minute early to a meeting with him. I'll not be in that kind of sty, not when I can avoid it. He's just as like to have all the witnesses hunted down so as to not miss a single individual in eyesight. So you want to go to the Wraith Regents Court, than ol' Bilse Svine will do what the GG's obviously don't have the balls to do... Begging your pardon for my language of course."

Just let it go... if they can't see your mark, you don't have to defend that garbage... She thought, upon hearing the VIP speak of the wraith regent. The one armed warrior could hear the chauvinist piglet take offense of its name being called, which was all too common for the species. His words, oddly, offended her given the association. Her head was down, her body turning around and walking towards the oversized ham and the obnoxious rich cloud district bitch. Nope... if I just keep my head down, and keep myself quiet... I can just leave like nothing ever happened. She thought, as her hand was on the boar's furry arm, gripping the hairs tightly before pulling him away from the cloaked VIP. Yup... all I have to do is be invisible.

She stood in the center of the bridge road now, her face hidden by the straw hat, her hand now on her katana's grip. "Shut that big mouth of yours piglet, I might be inclined to climb inside and eat ya from the inside out..." She spat coarsely at the creature, her back to the the GG and VIP who were now confused as to whether or not they point their weapons at her for stepping in the way of the VIP or not. Just gotta stay cool, and wait for it to all blow over... She continued to think, despite her actions and words. "...if this one behind me wishes to see the Wraith Regent, I shall spare you the indecency of showing up with those meter-mates or this rotisserie grilled ham over there." She told the VIP, half looking over her shoulder to them as she explained this bit quietly.

Reproached but not without reason Bilse Svine glared at the pigmy assaulting his eardrums.

"Pipe up a little more missy and we'll settle which is the piglet, and which is bound for the spit. I don't think a short-heighted lass such as yourself has the right to speak like one of the gentlefolk. All things considered, I just know if a gentlemen such as myself doesn't step up and do the right thing, all these innocent folk, and the GG's as well will suffer "his" wraith. Now shimmer down and behave while the adults talk business. I'm sure the one needing escorting would gladly except your "sword arm", all be it a fraction of the size of a massive Boar's arm. Now chicken little hush while I settle the detail with the important folk. Mind your p's and q's."

Shaking off the lingering sensation of the warriors grip Bilse Svine, slide passed her once again making an attempt to negotiate the VIP's passage.

"Now as I was about to offer before being interrupted by the uncivilized, I would gladly escort you for the good of all parties involved, and this."

Looking back for a brief moment before continuing daring the lonesome warrior woman to speak up with a look of I dare you to interfere.

"Lady warrior is reasonably skilled despite her obvious piggish etiquette and manners. It would be an honor for the both of us to serve you in this situation for the continued good welfare of community if no other reason."

Very well I accept, as it seems the Guards provided to me lack the courage to do what must be done. I am in your care gentle sir, and lady.

With a bow to them, and shushing hand to the GG's as they attempted to protest the VIP marched up to their new escort detail.

If you would be so kind as to lead the way, my safety is in your hands now madam warrior.

"Such big words coming out of that big mouth of yours; you're just as apt to scarf this VIP down as soon as you take them off the road." She scoffed. "This single arm does double the work, so try me bastard, and I'll show you who's ready for the spit. Don't tempt me, I'm hungry." She taunted.

"Ahem, such uncouth manners, a moment if you would."

Unruffled by the rude gesture Bilse looks down at the the warrior woman whispering softly so only she can her him. His rose and citrus perfume a sweet contrast to the bitter jagged threat that comes out of his mouth.

"And deprive our master of one of his favor suppliers of rare an exotic goods I think not sweet bird! And pray I forget you were even here when we reach his domain, and if you behave I might even be willing to convince our important package to forget that a one armed warrior trying to conceal her identity was even involved in this venture. Call it a favor for remaining civilized on my part. It would be better for all of us if you didn't make a scene which would split more than either of us care to part with savvy. We both have more to lose by going it alone than bickering like pigs in sty."

She scoffed. "Says the pig in a suit." She says with a shrug. "No matter how much sweet perfume you put on yourself, and call yourself a civilized boar, you're still a fur, a pig. A non human freak. You want to see a split, keep talking and I'll show our VIP what you look like split down the middle. But you wanna play it nice? Then shaddup, and let me lead the way, dig?" She says, pushing up her straw hat, her single red eye glaring at him. She turned to the VIP. "...you both better be worth it. That shit stain best be in a good mood... I'm not in the mood to lose another limb." she says with a growl, turning her head away after her declaration.

With a shrug, Bilse Svine let hr have the lead.

"As you wish, lead on."

Quietly Bilse fall in behind the other two twirling his butcher's block in one large hand. Whistling softly a happy little tune to occupy his time as rear guard.

Meanwhile the VIP having acquired an escort of some apparent worth approached ready to be on the move.

So we are headed for the Wraith Regents court, back across this bridge and all the way to his humble court. UP, down, and around.. so tell me are the rumors true, does he really make men into slaves just to watch them feet one another blinded.?

"He's got the body of a man, but brain of a child who was dropped several times on his head..." She told the VIP with a bored tone, leading the party and glad that the fur was in the rear guard, and out of her sight. "I miss the last regent already, at least that one didn't try to rhyme or act like a fool... if anything though, he does have the previous wraith's ferocity." She allowed. She didn't want to answer much about him, considering she didn't know much else about him, in spite of being his bodyguard at one point before her markings. It was kinda the family gig, you protected the wraith regent and acted as his right hand man; guess he really didn't need one, given she cut hers off above the elbow. What she had left of her physical right arm was just enough to slip a sock over, maybe a little more. "Come, lets not tarry here any longer. I smell bacon, and I don't mean the guy in the back." She says, feeling like other unseen eyes were watching. Perhaps the Blades... she didn't need to deal with them. Then again... it could have been something else entirely. It was like a mosquito buzzing around your ear kind of feeling... she had to ignore it for now and continue forwards.

So you're disloyal at heart?

It was a question to be certain, as the began across the bridge back to the abandoned Gyrocar, where a mob was already gathered swarming the machine for parts and pieces and anything else they could steal from it. The city had gone made with the lifting of the mist. Violence like nothing Gendoshima had seen in centuries had broken out. Few were alive that remembered the war between the races, and those were beings who lived in the shadows of society plotting and pulling strings.

The mob saw the approaching trio and turned toward them. In moments they would be upon them.

Or is it something else, I don't understand you from how you speak. It's almost as if you love the position but hate the one in it. That would be a terrible life to live. How do you manage it?

She didn't answer the first question, not immediately anyhow. Her focus on the mob of people ahead of them that were interested in their approach. "Its a family position... you can say I can care less if the little shit carks it, but he won't on my watch... not that I have a choice in the matter anyhow with this lovely tattoo across my face." She flicked her katana partly open, a reverse grip placed on the wrapped shaft of the tsuka. "...well, drinking heavily helps. As does taking it out on my enemies, but booze mostly through." She replied honestly, drawing her sword as one of the pillaging idiots got close enough to hit. She didn't give any mercy, considering she wasn't in a particularly good mood, and it just so happened his face pissed her off. Her movement was so quick, that the man was still screaming, makeshift weapon raised before momentum finally caught up with him and his chest sagged; the left side of his body slid away from the rest in a spray of blood! The spray seemed to miss the trio as he fell behind the boar, and it helped spook the rest of the mob and keep their distance. All the while, Reizei smiled like a wolf, as if to welcome more prey to her blade! She casually slung the weapon over her shoulder after a strong flick which launched the blood staining her blade off and across one of the fallen, whimpering GG soldiers who had cowered from the angry mob; splashing across his face in a shower of crimson ichor. "Yeah, killing kinda helps too." She shrugged, sounding slightly bored, but her wolfish grin remained, her eye fixated on the mob they were going to walk through.

Market Square in the Upper Quarter Empty Re: Market Square in the Upper Quarter

It seemed to help spook the rest of the mob to keep their distance. Instead they circled, keeping the trio caged in rather than allowing them through the GG's off the bridge, not even considering helping, but rather retreating further into the market district leaving the trio to fend for themselves.

An awkward silence was shattered by a squeal, but not one coming from the lips of Bilse Svine as he was keeping his word and not saying anything. He stepped aside as the squeal continued as the man Reizei had neatly severed in half stopped falling halfway to the ground knees bent but nothing more than a shin and foot touching the ground as he turned in place his body being pulled back together by black misty smoke. Not thick, but not entirely see through either. The man cracked his neck and charged again at Reizei, rushing straight into her no fear of her blade cutting through his flesh, reaching for her arm as she prepared to cut him down a second time.

Bilse eyed the encircling mob, not one moved from their ring, but neither did they seem intent to let their prey flee.

Reizei didn't turn to face the creature she slain, but sensed as it got close, sheathed her sword and then off handedly aimed behind her and flicked the blade like a projectile into the creature's jaw, sending it flying back again! The blade was at an angle where she had to only tip it forwards, letting it slide back into place again before she re-positioned the weapon on her hip.

"Yare yare... these 'people' are full of surprises." She sighed. She kept her eye on the encroaching crowd of creeps. "Perhaps if we divide the crowd with a proper weapon..." She spoke her thoughts openly, and side stepped the same creature whom she had knocked backed and sliced before, tripping it with one strong leg. They weren't going to let them through, and they needed to clear a path through the odd mob. Yet, she was calm about it considering, fog or no fog. She raised her 'nub' of an arm, and yanked out an odd dragon like statue? slapping it on... it was no statue.

"You both may wanna cover your ears, this probably's gonna do shit... but it may give us a pathway through these odd pests." She warns, readying the cannon with a starshell explosive round, a shell that made a bright light as it launched an seven inch wide spherical projectile that would explode; a kind of mix of a flashbang with a traditional high explosive. Normally one would aim one of these high up, but Reizei was tired of this bridge already, and didn't want to stick around much longer- so she aimed it straight towards the mob and fired away!

Mirthless laughter preceded her thunderous blast.  The disembodied laughter continued as the crowd burst into black smoke where the projectile pierced through exploding on impact with the GG's gyrocar at the far side of the bridge.  A laugh so cold and bitter that each sound pierced to the very center of a person's soul.  Mocking not just the attempt, but all things that stood before it.  The Black smoked swirled around the trio as the last smokey images of the mob faded into wisps trailing around the thin smokey entrapment.  The man who was struck by Reizei, stood his slowly becoming pure black smoke as a solid form began to take shape., a man of darkness...

Market Square in the Upper Quarter Revere12

A face without nose or eyes staring directly into the souls of those it stood before and around. In a moment the deadly silence was broken by a squeal of a different sort.

"Oh STY, FUCKING FUCK ME STY, NO FUCKING PARDONING THIS STY, STY, STY, STY!"

Bilse Svine swore up a storm frozen in place, much the same as the VIP stood stock still waiting for the stand off to break.

Tsujino Reizei blinked, her jaw agape and arm cannon lowered slightly. "Heavenly Fog be damned... what in the Defiled Gods name is that thing?!" She exhaled, hesitating for a moment, before raising her arm cannon again loading another shell into the cannon before firing. another starshell at the creature! She heard the sound of the pig squealing bloody murder behind her, and you could almost miss it over the cannon fire and the mirthless, godless laughter emanating from the spectral creature. "Oi! I told you to fuckin' stay quiet!" She spat, looking back at the pig with a look of anger, sweat rolling down the sides of her cheeks, her head turning back to face the thing once again! Shit, I don't think my gun-arm's gonna do any good, we're fucked here!
