Lair of the Famine Beasts

She ignored the feeling of the rocky road underfoot, readying her bow as she left the bait- her shoes, in the open to be spotted as she made her way around the boot of the sedan, keeping low as she observed the trio of freaks descend upon the road.

The creatures each split off from the red clad leader and the floating octopi, examining different areas, while the leader eyed the sedan, parked out here on it's own.

"Mortal ground vehicle is stationary up here. It may appear empty, but stay alert."

The creature raised it's pistol like weapon with both hands, before indicating to the floating octopi to come over the top. The creature let out a harmonious noise as it floated upward again, becoming noiseless.

The crimson leader pointed his gun at the car and started walking, carefully towards it, his large, red slitted eyes scanning all over it. He reached the hood of the black encolored sedan, his clawed feet clearly visible to Kurumi. He switched his weapon from standard discharge to high energy discharge mode with the weapon giving off a slight whistling whine sound as it's capacitors filled with deadly energy. His eyes narrowed and he took in deep breaths through his slitted nostrils.

"I smell... fear..."

Kurumi could see the clawed foot as it made its way around the hood, and continued to circle back to the opposite way from the boot end of the vehicle. She watched evenly as her shoes would be spotted by the sickening, crimson clad creature, neatly set beside one another. She didn't do anything at that moment, besides turn her attention to the other four. The floating octopus thing was climbing higher, much to her chagrin. I'll have to get rid of that thing... She thought, before her attention turned to the other two reptilian looking creatures clad in blue armor. They were both standing rather close, observing their leader's actions, precariously underneath the hovering sedan high above their heads. None of them had seemed to become aware of it's presence yet, and given she rather even the odds, made a chance shot.

It was about this time, the crimson clad one was likely lifting up one of the shoes she left behind, when she aimed her bow high and let loose an arrow! The arrow soared high into the night air, swiftly and silently, perforating the balloon which had lifted Rie's sedan she had planned to send to Adam. The vehicle rather quickly descended upon the pair of blue armored reptilians with a loud CRASH! as it plummeted down! Thankfully it hadn't exploded, as she'd like to at least salvage the info and the genetic data she wanted to send to Adam- but that wasn't her concern at that very moment. She turned her bow, already knocking another arrow, one wrapped with a seal of electricity combined with the spiritual power she possessed as a Priestess. Combining the Priestess powers with her Onmyoji magic, she let the custom arrow loose which would strike with a power of purification as well as produce an explosive jolt as if lightning had crashed down upon the arrow and wherever it landed itself!

The leader grunted out a hiss as the floating vehicle crashed down on his troopers. The Octabrain let out a frightening wail as it charged it's psionic energies in retaliation. The leader swiftly took off skyward on his jetpack, trying to get mobile. He hit his wristcomp again.

"We're under attack! Enemy position unknown! Two troopers KIA! I need backup up here!" the creatures frantic comms drew the attention of the Overlord himself.

"Incompetent! Very well, maintain maximum alertness. I'll send one of the commanders along with reinforcement troops to your position now. Do not fail me!"

Down below, one of the lesser obese commanders on the bladed floating platforms rose up, followed by at least another six of the lizardman troopers in various colors activate their jetpacks, all making their way to the cliff, the Overlord's large eyes narrowed at the cliff face where he heard the vehicle crash down overhead. his teeth rippled like a zipper.

Two down! Kurumi slid underneath the vehicle, her skirt peeling back, her buttocks rubbing against coarse soil as she slid to the other side of the vehicle where the one clad in red had been standing before it took to the skies above! She unintentionally avoided a blast from the octopus thing by doing this and from her position on her back, she let loose a weak arrow up into the red clad reptile's forearm, either hitting the wristcom or was slightly ahead of it- either way it looked painful as the long arrow jutted from both sides of the arm!

She managed to slip her shoes back on and turn to see an approaching party of monsters.



"Someone needs a diet," she says under her breath, keeping mental note of the commanding creature above her and the octopus creature, as she did something awful. Combining two talismans, one which created a fire, another a self contained barrier, Kuru wrapped the talismans around an arrow and fired it towards the direction of the obese creature on its hoverround. The arrow soared high, and technically missed, hitting the plating of its chair- but the barrier spell activated, surrounding the bladed disk it used for propulsion as the fire charm activated.



Fire quickly engulfed the area within the barrier- a flash fire which quickly ate at the surrounding oxygen and burning intensely at the fatty creature trapped within!

Kuru let the other creatures advance, knowing it be some time till they would arrive. She turned swiftly to the octopus beast which had swooped down and shot one of its coils around her neck, forcing her to relinquish her bow for a moment, using her forearm to prevent it choking her as it began to rise up again! "Dammit...!" cursed the Miko turned Double Agent, who winced at the creature as it lifted her high up!

The Major trooper held his hand in anguish, cradling the impaled limb cradled underneath the charged pistol. before he started firing wildly in the direction the shot came from, sending several charged blasts in rapid succession into the car's windows, scorching the upolstery inside it, and melting the steering column and gearstick.

Then, when the second arrow emerged, and set fire to the approaching Commander, the obese creature let out a low grunt of pain as the flames spread over it's cybernetically attached floating disk, and travelled over it's seemingly oily skin. However, the creature took control of the flame quickly with it's mastery of Hellfire, and with a clench of it's arms on either side of it's body, it burst the flames off of it's skin with a powerful shockwave, sending embers of hot orange flame cascading all around itself.



Then, with an anger and fury, the creature tilted it's disk, exposing the underslung missile launcher beneath it, and fired two Hellbore missiles at the vehicle, blowing it to smouldering scrap and a memory.

Kuru watched the vehicle she had driven out with explode violently in a ball of hellish flame! "So much for the shotgun..." she croaked, still being strangled by the octobrain which had pulled her up and away from the vehicle prior to it exploding. She turned her large brown eyes over to the red clad demon, who then noticed her at last, being strangled by the floating creature bringing her to its gaping jaws with its tentacles! "Heh... wherever you guys came from, I guess the Calamari eats you!" She quipped, her face close enough to the creature's mouth that she could smell its rancid breath! However, with her free hand, she produced another ofuda talisman, and channeled through it the power of lightning once again!

"Hraah!" She groaned, throwing the sutra into the creature's throat, as the discharging electricity flowed through its insides and body! In this weakened state, she drew her knife, slicing through the tentacles which held her neck and left arm fiercely, falling back to the fiery earth where she wheezed. She looked over to the obese creature who was still alive despite her creativity, which she didn't get discouraged over. Now she knew fire wasn't the answer with big guys like them. Go figure, heh. She thought, before the one in red still above her bellowed out in anger. "Crap!" She spat, grabbing her bow and running off towards the ledge, sliding down into the valley below by dragging her mary janes into the side of the single slope of loose pebbles.

Still, even now, she showed off her remarkable recovery, agility and marksmanship when she knocked four arrows and blessed them with her spiritual power:



She aimed the cluster of glowing greenish blue arrows at the reinforcements and the obese figure, letting loose an arc of sacred arrows upon them as she continued to slide down into the despoiled valley below!

With three moves in quick succession, she crippled the red clad squad leader of the average lizard troopers, send the Octobrain screaming and smouldering to the ground almost as ashes, and in that final move, her bow sent four arrows into the underside of the fat commander's mode of transportation, the floating disk. The blessed arrows struck the missile launcher, and three of the discs anti gravity propulsion devices, which sent the stunned creature spinning wildly on only one unbalanced anti gravity device. Spinning, and listing horribly under it's own weight, the commander let out a panicced roar as it crashed into the ground with a tremendous thud, spraying blood out of it's mouth, nose, ears, eyes, and several ruptures in it's skin as the shock of it's own bodyweight crashing to the ground, no longer supported by the very necessary anti gravity devices, almost crushed and flattened itself into the ground. The creature gurgled pitifully in agony.

"Th... The mortal.... She's here.... She's.... URK... Gkkk... Ghhhhh...." the monster expired, choking on it's own bone, blood and bile. The body sagged, and seemingly flattened into the ground even more as whatever muscle and sinew still resisted gravity finally gave out.

The other troopers all let out an angry warcry, and started firing their various weapons at the human. But then, a massive monster seemingly jumped up from the Spire crater, and landed on the ground before them, The creature landed in a low crouch, surrounded by the dust it's landing had kicked up. But soon it rose up onto it's legs and stood upright. Smoke seemed to shoot from the base of it's cybernetic attachments on it's back, two large boxy looking protrusions poked over it's shoulders on either side of the wide,head, and a very large pair of glowing orange vertically slitted eyes peered from the dust cloud at her.



"By Lucifer's halo, you are all useless. You were bested by a small human girl with some mild faith based powers..."

Kurumi's body acted on its own, her cat like reflexes allowing her to nimbly dodge the hail of projectiles flung at her! She was a highly acrobatic and flexible woman, who was a very proficient cat burglar when she felt she needed more money than what the government or even Adam paid her. She swiftly descended the cliff face, and countered with several more sacred arrows - felling one more of the creatures who retaliated before she somersaulted in the air and in a three point landing, was at the despoiled forests' floor. She looked up, noting the large monster who arrived on scene- the earth quaking in its wake. It was big, tall and wide. Its body looked reptilian cross bred with an amphibian. Its body was stoutish- froglike, but had rough, scaly flesh like that of a lizard. Its large orange eyes which glowed in the darkness as the two moons over head were blocked by the clouds looked amphibian but with the slit of a dragon or a lizard. Both slits aimed towards her, the woman who stood before it no more than half a football field away.

She recognized its voice as the one in red had been conversing with, its voice filled with malice and disdain for his lackies lack of skill. She raised a brow playfully at the monster, and launched an arrow over its head as a letter of introduction. "My, you're cute." Kurumi sarcastically teased the larger man-eater; glancing up at the taller, amphibian like beast from another realm:



The 5'9 girl pushed her long dark hair back and smirked. "Oh, I'm more than just a pretty face with some 'faith', bucko~" She cooed, as the arrow which had hit the ground behind the overlord held a paper doll fashioned from one of her ofuda!



A howl pierced the night air as a spiritual summon was conjured from the doll, a large nine tailed fox dove for the Overlord's back, its bluish glow of sacred energy illuminating him as it bit down on the space between his neck and his left shoulder; its claws grinding against its armor as the nine tails swished around it, causing spiritual fire in eerie blue glowing flames to spread around the despoiled forest!

"I'm one of the deadliest women on the whole damn planet!" She smirked, showing off her teeth as she took a cluster of four arrows and launched them at the overlord soon after!

Overconfident." replied the creature, as it seemingly smiled savagely, and a moment later, a shockwave of black flame emitted from it's skin, drinking in the light from the area as it did so, plunging the area surrounding them into a darkness like an overcast night, thick with fog, smoke, and the crackling of dangerous flames. These flames blew off the sacred fire off it's body, and threw the spirit fox off it's back.



The only light to pierce the darkness seemed to come from Kurumi's bow, the spirit fox's etherial body, and the creatures large eyes.

But with a growling chuckle, the creatures eyes seemingly closed, and it disappeared. Only the echoing sounds of it's massive footsteps, shaking the ground as they were, seemingly echoing from everywhere around

Kurumi didn't seem too phased, drawing a circle around herself with her bow, posting it's lower end in the dirt for stability as the eyes of the creature closed. She didn't answer his taunt, only smirked, as her familiar spreads out its tails and began stalking around the area of darkness. Several moments passed, and fox spirit growled, tails flared up and sparking with energy!

"You may want to take care where you step, Ser Toad;" Came Kurumi's voice, echoing throughout the darkness now, rather than being near the bow. "...you may regret it~" her voice whispered, closer to him before a playful giggle seemed to fade and swirl around him!

"You may want to take care where you step, Ser Toad;" Came Kurumi's voice, echoing throughout the darkness now, rather than being near the bow. "...you may regret it~" her voice whispered, closer to him before a playful giggle seemed to fade and swirl around him!

"Heh!" the creature grunted in reply, and it crouched low, before using it's massive leg muscles to propel itself skyward in a massive leap that put it well above the dark zone it had created.. In a feat of athleticism that defied it's massive size, it seemingly backflipped, pointing it's head, and it's cannons down towards the ground, while it's clawed, webbed feet stretched skyward like it was diving, before it opened fire with a barrage of heavy, high explosive area impacting missiles into the dark zone, blowing the black flames away with a series of massive explosions all over the former dark zone, and glassing the soil beneath it win intense heat. The force of each missile launched from it's back kept it airborne for several long moments more that should be realistically expected.

After several volleys of missiles, the creature extended it's legs toward the ground, writing itself before landing amid the burning debris of the rotten and dilapitated trees, and glassed scorched earth.

"You may want to take care where you step, Ser Toad;" Came Kurumi's voice, echoing throughout the darkness now, rather than being near the bow. "...you may regret it~" her voice whispered, closer to him before a playful giggle seemed to fade and swirl around him!

"Heh!" the creature grunted in reply, and it crouched low, before using it's massive leg muscles to propel itself skyward in a massive leap that put it well above the dark zone it had created.. In a feat of athleticism that defied it's massive size, it seemingly backflipped, pointing it's head, and it's cannons down towards the ground, while it's clawed, webbed feet stretched skyward like it was diving, before it opened fire with a barrage of heavy, high explosive area impacting missiles into the dark zone, blowing the black flames away with a series of massive explosions all over the former dark zone, and glassing the soil beneath it win intense heat. The force of each missile launched from it's back kept it airborne for several long moments more that should be realistically expected.

After several volleys of missiles, the creature extended it's legs toward the ground, writing itself before landing amid the burning debris of the rotten and dilapitated trees, and glassed scorched earth.

The familiar lunged for the overlord as it grunted, but missed as he took to the sky! Launching missile after missile, unloading its salvo upon the gloomy dome it had created, it seemed like Kurumi would have undoubtedly perished! Upon touching down again, the aggressive creature sneered at the fiery wreckage- of pulverized trees and deformed earth, flames climbing up anything that wasn't directly hit. Kurumi's bow, while not on fire, had snapped, and the nine-tailed spirit guardian was on its side, fading like blue dust on the wind as the paper doll which had acted as its vessel burned away into ash.

"Seal - Petrify!" came Kurumi's voice from behind the Overlord! Slamming a pair of seals over the gaping hot barrels of his launchers, which forced the metal to stretch and seal the barrels tight followed by planting a pair of seals on each cannon which caused them to begin turning to stone! The seals transmuted the metal into sandstone, and began to spread across the pack and part of his armor as she somersaulted over his head, and while upside down-

"Adamant effort," she began, quickening her pace as she made her way over to the bow. "Your pack is turning into sandstone, I'd remove it and give up if I were you, unless you'd like to become a fragile stone sculpture, Commander." she cooed, grabbing her snapped bow, and stuck the two ends together. Using her abilities, she mended the Miko tool by fusing the splintered ends together, the shaft reforming and becoming good as new once again. "Its a bow fashioned from wood surrounding the Tangeshima estate. Its resistant to the hottest of flames, but can still snap. Thankfully, I was on the up and up in my priestess studies. If I wasn't born with such an unquenchable lust, I'd have likely made it to High Priestess- but they frown on that sort of thing when you fuck someone, sadly~" She cooed, turning to face the Overlord, almost pitying him. "I'm low on arrows and ofuda, much of which were destroyed by your blast I reckon." She began. "Oh, yeah, why do I still breathe? Well, I climbed a tree as soon as you covered the area in darkness. I have an ability which allows me to see through illusions, be they physical or magical in nature by drawing a circle with my bow or using salt. However, it requires one to plant the bow for it remain in effect and you were getting pretty close. So I sent you some messages, with my other ability, to try and tease you, as I climbed a tree and jumped on your back while you leaped up. Timing was perfect, but I'm good with timing. Being kicked out of the Priesthood, I had to do something to make ends meat~" She giggled, explaining all this and giving the overlord time to consider his options.

The creature grunted as it had to jettison the cursed set cybernetically grafted missile launchers from it's back, dislodging the rest of it's back armor, and exposing the previously sealed flesh beneath, Two deep wound like gashes on either side of it's spiked spine. The hellish launchers exploded a few meters above the creature.



"Hrrrrhhhhh... Well played..." it hissed out, even as it reached for it's waist, pilling out a small (Well small relative to itself) glowing blue orb. It looked hungrily at the small gemlike orb in it's hand.

Unfortunate mortal victims, kidnapped by vile demons, are sometimes taken into Hell, into a place called the Fortress of Mystery, where they are imprisoned in dank, damp, dark dungeons. The soul's pure energy is encased in crystal spheres that are stored throughout the fortress. The spheres are used for many purposes, mainly as power sources, healing devices, and components in foul arcane rituals. Once inside it's crystal container, the mortal's soul energy can be preserved for all eternity, without losing any of it's power. For Demons or any Hellspawn that consumes a Soul Sphere, it possesses a powerful healing and revival effect, even the regeneration of lost limbs and tissues. The creature raised the precious healing device to it's mouth, before crunching down upon it like a bubblegum ball, consuming the powerful device. It's energies rushed through it's veins, arteries and nerves like blue luminescent fire, and it's woulds, including those from the cybernetic grafting healed, it's stamina and strength were reinvigorated, and it's power restored.

The creature ceased the torrent of arcane fire from it's maw before it reared back, and performed an overhead slash with it's claw, sending five individual shockwaves from each of it;s talons into the blaze, fissuring the earth, and catching the mystical flames, thereby creating 5 individual glowing blue streams of magma. These bladed shockwaves streaked towards Kurumi, and around her position.



The creature charged into the inferno, following the shockwave, and despite lacking it's missiles and jet boosters, it's gait and stride made it incredibly fast for it's size, though perhaps less agile, given it's weight and momentum, meaning it could charge fast in a straight lone, but turning was more of an issue at that size.

It's maw still alight with the blue flame, it swiped at the daredevil of a human woman with a powerful claw swing.

"Shit!" Kurumi cursed, her agile body now put to the test again. She'd been in laser room capable of dicing her into a thousand pieces, to her that was probably the most hairy of a situation she'd been in.



He's faster than I warranted, but I suppose it makes sense given his rank! She thought as she launched a few arrows in his path to try and divert his charge as she had to leap off trunks of trees to avoid being torn to shreds by the flaming blade of death! Three arrows flew towards his path as she kept backing up from him, hoping she didn't back herself into a corner as she was focused on him and his attacks!

Kurumi reached to grab another arrow, and felt less than she had before, her head snapping to the quiver at her side, her brown eyes large with shock. "I'm running low on arrows, crap!" She spat, counting about perhaps five in the quick glance it took from her quiver to the approaching Overlord looming over her! "Crap!" She spat, using her bow to block as she tried to side step out of his path!

Becoming less than kindling now in her hands, she was soon sent flying through the thick treeline, her back slamming hard into a trunk, eliciting a pained scream from the woman which echoed throughout the valley! "Raaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!"

What few animals or birds that had remained took flight of the situation, as Kurumi slumped against the base of the tree, wincing. "Dammit...!" she spat, one winking brown eye glancing towards the bellowing blue fire shooting towards her again! Swiftly, even whilst being stunned, she forced herself to move, to avoid being burnt to a crisp by the intense blue flames, rolling down a slope into a deeper trench. She ran, right hand clutching her left elbow as she ran deep into the thicket as the flames burned the trees behind her in eerie blue hellish flames.

The Overlord's fire breath attack petered out after a few long moments, scorching the trees and brush ahead of it, in the direction the woman went. It could smell her through the smoke and flames, hear her heartbeat and panting breath, and mostly, and it could sense her fear, trepidation, and her life energies via it's demonic senses. It's teeth rippled again in slight chuckling, it's long narrow tongue licked across each jagged tooth, leaving a slimy trail of saliva on them, dribbling to the parched soil at it's feet.

He heard the anti gravity devices of his remaining two Assault commanders finally reach their ascended plateau above the valley, followed by the remaining two Octabrains and the troopers. The commander indicated to attack the scorched area, raising it's arm mounted Plasma Cannon, and charging a powerful pulse of sickly lime green energy, but the Overlord indicated for them all to stand down. "DO NOT INTERFERE! She is MINE!" it bellowed.

Then with another rippling of the teeth, it withdrew another sphere from it's hip armor, this one was a blue and red sphere, similar to the one it ingested earlier.



The Minions of Hell have a long history of experimenting with the powers of darkness, shadow, death, and even the infinite Void. During the demons foul experiments with these volatile forces, they were able to devise an orb-like artifact, which could harness concentrated darkness into it, containing it in a stable condition and allowing it to be released when the artifact's power is invoked. Any Hellspawn who uses this artifact, has their physical body partially interwoven into the void and imbued with pure darkness, becoming semi-liquid and partially translucent and invisible. Thus, the user can often sneak, and surprise unwary foes, as they would not be able to see them in this translucent state. The Fallen were very pleased with the artifact's creation, and ordered that more be constructed, and used as one of Hell's most powerful tools of evil. The orb's effect is temporary and the user's body is soon restored to its natural state as the dark energies dissipate into the realm they came from.

The creature invoked an incantation, and the Orb in it's palm glowed and the energies within it writhed and seethed, before it crushed the orb in it's hand, and the energies wove themselves around the creature, making it slowly turn transparent, then fading until it became totally invisible to the naked eye.

The effect also heavily muffled the sounds of it's footsteps, with the only indication of were it was, were the footprints themselves suddenly appearing in different locations.

Snap!



Kurumi swiftly looked behind her, hearing branches or twigs snapping as she stood there, hiding as she recovered. She was only slightly jumpy, as she was now limited with her weapons, and Mr. Slimey hanging off her belt wasn't going to do much other than make her a more visible target given all the trees in the valley had no leaves on their long dead branches. Dammit, I had the high ground! Maybe I went a little overboard with my items, fuckery! She mentally chastised herself, puffing her cheeks as if to argue with someone other than herself. Somewhat neurotic, Kurumi often acted out on this kind of stress regardless if someone was around or not. Still, she was being mindful of her predicament. She didn't want to throw a tantrum and lead the Overlord to her. "That overgrown toad's got some skill, I can see why he's their commander. Commendable, and ruthless. I'd be gunning after me if I was him too. I can't sit tight, gotta keep moving..." she whispered to herself, trying to alleviate the stress somewhat as she backed away from the stack of logs and pushed herself deeper into the Dead Woods.

She could sense something was off, but there were other creatures and demons in the Valley of the Famine Beasts other than the Overlord and his cronies. She hated the idea of retreating, but she had little choice. "I need to find a place to lie low, and then return to the other sedan. I need to get that stuff to Genova..." she told herself as she carefully walked through a path, using her chi abilities to help muffle her own footsteps, unaware of the ones that were appearing behind her...!

A sudden pressure, and humid wetness engulfed her upper torso, before what felt like the tip of at least three or four swords poked into her waist came out of nowhere.



The air around her shimmered and spin for a moment, before growing dark, and she realized she was staring at the hart pallet of the roof of the creature's maw! The creature was chuckling, it's foul breath and sticky saliva was everywhere, and the creature's wriggling tongue was already swiping across her back, bum, and the back of her thighs greedily tasting everything it touched.



The creature's incessant motions now that it caught her as it's prize were relentless. And it's chuckling was dark, promising a grim fate.

The Overlord continued to savor and suck on it's new treat, briefly considering whether or not to 'store' her in it's gullet pouch for later consumption, considering it had only just ingested a Soul Sphere, and living mortal flesh and spirit was so much more rare and delectable than a tortured Hellbound soul long since dead and robbed of that vigorous living force. It had, in fact been several thousand years since it last had the opportunity for consuming a living soul, and savoring their vigorous life energies.

It made it's decision, and began to move her towards the back of it's mouth and prepared to open up it's throat pouch when a new distortion appeared in front of it. A shimmer, then a shadow, much like the Overlord itself had done earlier, except this was done by a being who needed no sphere. What emerged from the distortion was a being easily as large as the Overlord in height and musculature, Black of skin, with purple highlights and parts, and parts of the creature were immense metal coated cybernetics. It walked on hock-kneed joints, and massive cloven hooves, but it's musculature and pose were much more upright than that of the Overlord. It's three eyes blinked in unison, glowing bright purple, with a visibly glowing portal of energy emitting from a hole in it's chest.



"Krall! Why are you down on the planet? You were given no permission to leave the ship." came the drawl of the new arrival, as it eyed the Overlord.

The Overlord quickly stuffed Kurumi into it's left cheek so it could speak unobstructed. "I told you lot not to follow my group down here. I came here looking for my Battlelord and my little siblings!" retorted the Overlord indignantly.

"They are dead, Krall. It was confirmed. You know this."

"I know, I intend to find out how it happened, and who did it."

The Phase Commander Tyrant shook it's head from side to side. "You know the answer to that too. Come now, finish the one mortal you captured, and return with me to the ship. This is an order from your patriarch, Overlord Sajisthileen, and the Empress. Do not consider going to join those renegades led by the traitorous middle child of Faust."
